The Sotheby’s Latin American Department hosted the most buzzed about auction earlier this week at our NYC flagship . The Legacy of Abstraction Auction sale featured a diverse array of works by leading artists. The exhibit explored the impact of the abstract style in Latin America art circles. Legendary artists included Narciso Debourg, Lucio Fontana, Mathías Goertiz, Jesús Rafael Soto & Mira Schendel. The Evening Sale was led by Rufino Tamayo’s last version of La Familia which had an estimate of up to $1,600,000. The piece is significant due to its subject matter which reflects the importance of family in Latin American culture. Additional notable items offered include Diego Rivera’s 1921 El balcón as well as two pivotal works by Wilfredo Lam titled Les oiseaux voilés of 1945 and Le Sorcier de l’océan of 1947. View the results page for this sale that totaled $6,713,000 here. Contact me about my deep relationship with the Sotheby’s Auction House.
